Henri
Matisse once said "there are wonderful things in real jazz, the talent for improvisation,
the liveliness, the being at one with the audience", Henri Matisse is
known for his great art work but mostly for the structure and preciseness of
his art work. As I am learning to become a music composer, structure and preciseness
has been a big part of music composing. I find it to be very hard to put music together
in a jazz form of using flat notes in third, fifth, and seventh flat note from.
While mixing it with pitch blends and finding where to place mutes and have
solo comping. I find myself using my mnemonic device M.N.M.C. It stands for
melody, notes, mutes, and comping. I use M.N.M.C while listening, writing, and
taking note to jazz music. It helps me to remember when and where to look for certain
instruments or chord progressions. All together M.N.M.C helps a learning music
composer to find the structure and preciseness of a song that they are putting together
or looking over.
M.N.M.C is a useful mnemonic device
because it provides support to a musician who has trouble writing and reading
music. M.N.M.C seems like it should be used by professionals. M.N.M.C would strength one’s ability to make
any music not just Jazz. Although there are different genres of music.
